May I Have Your Attention, Please?

We are living in days and times where distractions come easily and from anywhere and everywhere. Those distractions can be hard to avoid depending on who you are, where you live, where you work, what you watch, who you hang with, what you listen to or what you read. That's the short list. Distractions are just that; attention-getting stuff and things that potentially get in the way of our lives.

Speaking of getting in the way, there's this. Just about every time I drive anywhere these days, someone crosses over into my lane without paying attention to the traffic around them. Seriously, I've had to make some quick swerves to save myself and the other drivers. I'm like, "May I have your attention, please? Just for a couple seconds, can you save the texting until you're off the road?" Look up, and live? PLEASE!

I did a series of posts a few  years ago that I titled "You're DRIVING (me) crazy!" The intention was to bring attention to the distracted drivers who all have the challenge of keeping their focus on driving. It's more prevalent than ever to see people texting and talking, and totally ignoring traffic and our safety doesn't seem to be of conern. And, yes indeed, that was driving me crazy!

It was pretty frightening too, to say the least. We are just innocent travelers trying to get to our destinations, so I had to put my thoughts and theory into some creative posting. Did it help? I certainly hope so, but I don't know. I'm sure some of them probably caught some attention from folks.

My main objective was to bring about more awareness of safety issues with a slightly humorous approach to a pretty serious issue. I'm sure I speak from the hearts of all of us who just have to be on the road and just want to arrive safely to home or work, or wherever.

So, I'll say this again, courteously but compellingly to our TWD (Texing While Driving) friends: May we have your (full) attention when you're at the wheel, because you are driving (us) crazy when we see that your eyes are not on the road. ~ S.R.F.
