1. Whatever doesn't really require your attention, don't give it your attention. Focus on priorities and what really matters. Doing this could add a couple of extra hours to your day. It could change your WHOLE day.
2. Get inside your head space. I know that's a new concept for some, but if you start thinking about what you're thinking about you might find that you're you're storing some things there that you need to get rid of. Dwelling on the worst of everything is not going to help you. It's like digging around in a trash can. There's nothing in it but stinky waste that you are going to throw out. That's exactly what we have to do with our worst thoughts: THROW THEM OUT. Work on it. You can do it.
3. There is so much noise going on in our lives, and unfortunately, many of us have allowed it become our normal. Is it time for a tune-out? Don't be afraid of quietness. It's healthy. Don't dispel what it can feel like to spend time alone and on your own. Learn to like being with yourself, even if you can only find a little time to do it. You may be surprised at some of the new sounds you hear when you dislocate from your TV. You might enjoy choosing some new sounds like great music, or engagement with great speakers that offer an incredibly broad range of topics to listen to. Make a decision to turn down the noise.
4. And what about focus? Have you lost it? It's when you can really zoom in on a thing. It's when you can ignore distractions because you are so one-on-one with your projects and goals. It's when that tunnel vision has kicked in and you're razor sharp about what you're doing and what you want to do. Small things, big things, and every thing in between can improve when you make up your mind that you are going to apply laser focus to it. Dare yourself to try it.
5. Straight means STRAIGHT. You cannot allow yourself to be pulled in every direction and expect to think straight. How can you go right if you're looking left? How can you go straight if you keep taking every turn off the road? I'm speaking metaphorically, of course, but that's what's happening. Indeed, we have an abundance of choices about most everything, but usually there are only a few of them that can take us toward our goals, both personally and professionally. Keep your eyes on YOUR road. That's the answer to that.
How to keep your head on straight? Try all of the above. It might be easier than you think. ~ S.R.F.
